About Mveledzo Day Hospital

As an established family practitioner at the Thohoyandou NHC Health Centre, which opened in 2021, Dr. Tshivhase approached the holding company of the NHC Health Centres, Nimpa Ltd, with the vision of a private hospital in Thohoyandou. This led to discussions between the CEO of Nimpa Ltd, Mr. Hermann Kohloffel, and Dr. Tshivhase. This collaboration has resulted in the establishment of Mveledzo Day Hospital, which opened in early 2024. Built on the premises of the Thohoyandou NHC Health Centre, the hospital has 3 theatres and 27 beds offering same-day surgery, attracting renowned surgeons and specialists from the Northern Limpopo area.

Same-day surgery is not only a cost-effective alternative but is less emotionally distressing, particularly for children. The nursing staff pride themselves on reassuring anxious patients about to undergo the nerve-racking experience of surgery and then assisting them through the recovery process. Included in the three theatres is a laminar flow theatre, which is supplemented by 1, 2, and 4-bed luxury wards. The Mveledzo Day Hospital is conveniently situated on the same premises as the NHC Health Centre, next to Thavhani Mall and in close proximity to the CBD. With ample parking, one can enter and leave the premises with ease. Mveledzo Day Hospital is a member of the Day Hospital Association of Southern Africa and the National Hospital Network.

Important Instructions for Patients:

Refrain from eating anything at least six hours before your scheduled surgery time. Clear fluids are permitted up to four hours before surgery, including water, juice without pulp, and black tea. If you are unsure, please don't hesitate to ask. Failure to comply may result in the cancellation of your surgery. If you develop a cold, sore throat, or any other illness before your surgery, please inform your doctor. This may require a postponement of your surgery. Arrange for a responsible person to accompany you from the clinic to your home and to stay with you after the surgery. For patients under the age of 18, a parent or guardian must accompany them. If this is not possible, please contact the clinic for a consent form to be filled out on the day of the surgery.

Financial Information:

Medical aid members will be charged Mveledzo Day Hospital fees at their medical aid rates. The medical aid usually pays the account directly, but some schemes may require upfront payment of a levy or co-payment. If the medical aid does not cover the account, you will be personally responsible for payment. Private patients must pay the full cost of hospital fees in advance. Patients undergoing procedures involving implants or prostheses are required to provide a deposit. Please contact us before your arrival if you are unsure about any fees or deposit amounts. Payment can be made by cash, cheque, credit card, or postal order. Please note that clinic fees do not include doctors' professional fees.

Post-Operative Instructions:

Please refrain from driving a car, operating machinery, cooking, or making any significant decisions for at least 24 hours following your surgery. Ensure you thoroughly read and follow all instructions provided regarding post-operative care, if applicable to your case. If necessary, do not hesitate to contact your doctor after discharge. Upon advice from your doctor or medical staff, make a follow-up appointment by calling your doctor's office. Remember to take all prescribed medications received at Mveledzo Day Hospital as directed.
